Books I read in 2017 + Reading List for 2018

As mentioned yesterday, I set a goal a year ago to read at least 25 books in 2017 and I beat that goal by finishing 31 books in 2018. I say finishing because I started more but gave up on a few that weren’t doing it for me. I learned a lot from these books and what is really cool is that I have met and gotten to know some of the authors and am proud to call some of them friends, so I am tagging them if we are connected. If you have questions about any of these books or you have read them as well, let me know. I’ll put a couple notes/recommendations at the bottom. OK, here is the list (mostly in the order in which I read them):

Books in progress:

  • Vision to Reality by Honoree Corder
  • The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone
  • The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday (great daily reader)
  • The Count of Monte Cristo (classic novel - 3rd time reading) by Alexandre Dumas

I learned a lot from these books (and enjoyed the novels I have read). The books that had the biggest impact on me this year were probably:

  • Freelance to Freedom by Vincent (read twice) - helped me think about what I’m doing with finances and career and truly introduced me to Vincent, who has become a very good friend and mentor/coach of mine
  • Dadly book of Open by Jason - helped me understand the importance and power of authenticity and vulnerability in connecting with my family and others
  • Bigger, Leaner Stronger by Michael Matthews - got me on a more structured lifting/workout schedule and I have made tons of gains since
  • The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone - only halfway through but already changing the way I work

I think in 2018 I will focus a bit more on implementation over reading volume, so perhaps I won’t read 30 books, but there are several on my list that have come highly recommended and that I hope to read this year. There are a lot of books on my reading list and more being added all the time so I will need to be prudent with what I read and how I spend my time.  I was going to share a list but I think I’ll stop here.

What books have you read and what are you reading now or this year?

  • Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss
  • Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferriss
  • The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber
  • Start with Why by Simon Sineck
  • The Ultimate Sales Machine (2nd time) by Chet Holmes
  • The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks
  • Resilence by Eric Greitens
  • Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink
  • Principles by Ray Dalio
  • Mastermind Dinners by Jayson Gaignard
  • Oversubscribed by Daniel Prietstley
  • The Mask of Masculinity by Lewis Howes
  • The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz
  • The Better Brain by Steven Masley

And I’m sure a lot more books will pop up.
